چکیده
Currently, several offline digital simulation software tools are available, with varying degrees of modeling and simulation capabilities. This paper aims to compare the capabilities of two program packages for electric network simulation: ATP-EMTP and PSCAD/EMTDC for modeling lightning overvoltages. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification: 68Uxx/Subject Classification for Computer Science. 281, 242.2

E-TRAN: Translation of Loadflow/Stability Data into Electromagnetic Transients Programs
This paper outlines a new program called E-TRAN, which bridges the gap between loadflow/stability programs and electro-magnetic transients programs. It is essentially a translation program for power systems, but includes many features to avoid manual calculations (such as the automated formation of multi-port network equivalents, initialization of machines/sources in large systems, auto-routing...
متن کاملRealization of Distance Relay Algorithm using EMTP MODELS
Digital technology has advanced very significantly over the years both in terms of software tools and hardware available. It is now applied extensively in many area of electrical engineering including protective relaying in power systems. Digital relays have many advantages over the traditional analog relays. The digital relay is able to do what is difficult or impossible in the analog relays. ...

The results influence the development of electrical and mechanical components and the design of control elements in power systems. Examples are Mechanical stresses on network elements Control systems of turbines and generators Settings of protective relays Transient stability of ...
متن کاملElectromagnetic Transients Simulation as an Objective Function Evaluator for Optimization of Power System Performance
This paper presents a new method for power systems performance optimization using Electromagnetic Transients Simulation. In this method, an emtp-type program (PSCAD/EMTDC) becomes the inner objective function calculation loop of a non-linear optimization program. The procedure is conducted in a Graphical Environment and with the use of specially designed blocks, allows for the selection of any ...
متن کاملNumerical Oscillations in Electromagnetic Transients Programs
The Electromagnetic transients progr am and its variants all use the “trapezoidal rule” numerical integration method. The trapezoidal rule is a second order numerical integration technique that is simple to implement. However, it is also susceptible to numerical oscillations when differentiat ing step changes in voltage and current. The program user should be aware of the potential for these os...
